We're looking to move July/August to another borough but a little worried with regards to dd getting a place in a school.
Dd is due to start reception in September. From what I have read, we will need to make a 'in year application'.
Will dd definitely get into a school or is there a possibility of not getting a school at all?

Hi Lilo

If I were you I would ring the LEA where you are moving to and find out what the procedure will be.

My understanding is that from September schools will be directly responsible for admissions rather than it being centrally organised (not sure if this is everywhere - but is the case in our bit of England).

Obviously there are no guarantees, but if you understand the system and indeed may be able to prearrange something before arrival it will make the move less stressful.

Thank you so much for replying.

I did call and I got told there was nothing they could do until we have moved to the area and then only I could put a in year application through. The person I spoke to wasn't very helpful and asked me to call back once we have moved to the area.

I'm just worried dd will be without a school in September :(

You will get a place but it may take time. It will be an in year application. It is normal for them to say you have to move into the area first. However, if any of the schools you want has a place available now you can apply through your current LA and you will be offered the place.

As PastSellByDate says, from September you will have to apply direct for schools for in-year admissions. If you can't find a place you go to the LA and ask them to find you a place under their Fair Access Protocol.

Thank you ladies. I feel a little better knowing there will be something even if it means waiting a little. xx
