Ashmount v Coleridge v Brookfield

Hello - we're moving from outside of London to Islington (Whitehall Park area) at the end of the month and need to apply for spaces for our two daughters, currently Y2 and Y4. Unfortunately, we've missed all of the school tours and won't have a chance to see the schools before we apply. Ashmount, Coleridge and Brookfield are all about .5 - .6 away. We'll likely be at the mercy of which has open spots for Y3 and Y5 in September, but in the event we have a choice, I'd love to hear your thoughts on these three schools, their strengths, weaknesses, etc. Thanks!

Thanks all for the feedback. It is a bit tricky that we'll be living near the intersection of 3 boroughs. I've had good communication with Islington (which will be our home borough), at least gotten a response from Camden, and haven't heard back at all from Haringey. We're not looking at religious schools. I will put Yerbury down on the application form, on the chance that their ridiculously small catchment area expands at upper grades. I think Ashmount will be our best bet if we can get both girls in there. Does anyone have experience at Coleridge? I know it's larger than the others, and had thought we might have a good chance there, as well, what with presumably more turnover due to size.

I think there's a fair few going private in juniors at Coleridge so you might well get a place esp since it's 4 form entry

newto - it sounds like your experience of contacting the 3 boroughs is similar to mine. It took me 2 months to get an email response from Haringey. As I'm making a speculative enquiry at the moment, I didn't chase it up too much - but would have done if the move was more imminent (I still chased twice mind you!). Islington and Camden much more responsive.

Farewelltoarms - I think that that is what I'm banking on. Out of 120 kids per year at Coleridge - there's got to be a few that are moving out of the area or moving to private schools.

Newto -good luck to you and keep us posted!

Ashmount launched a new site today which might answer a lot of your questions: www.ashmountprimaryschool.co.uk

Thanks very much daisymaybe; I knew that there was work going on to get a new website up. Actually it would be great to have feedback on how well it works...

Also the Ashmount summer fair is on the 30th June.

Come along, nose around,

(Spend money)

Go for a walk along the Parkland walk.

LegoWidow · 18/06/2013 15:02

ooh, I might well do that, nlondondad, thanks. I've just booked onto a tour there for Sept (no more tours this term) but it might be nice to have an advance nose around. And we've been meaning to do the Parkland walk for ages.
