When should i start applying for a school place?

Please help!!

My sons birthday is 15/6/2010. I have tried looking online to find out when to apply but find it all very confusing. can anyone advise me when i should start applying and then when he will actually start attending please! TIA

Your dc will start school (if you are in England) next September. I think you normally apply for schools in autumn and the cut off date for forms to be received is in January. But it doesn't matter if your form is first or last in as they are all treated equally. Normally nursery schools, pre schools and childminders are sent a poster to advertise where to get the forms and when they need to be in for.

Different areas have different times for school applications. In Norfolk the applications are open from Sept-Jan during the academic year before they start school. You DC will start schooling Sept 2014 so you need to apply during the autumn this year.
Your local council website should have information about the admissions procedure for your area. You will not necessarily be sent/given anything depending on your area. In ours the application is online but you can also fill out a form and send by post.

As others have said your son will start school in September 2014. Applications will open in September and close on 15th January - that date applies across all of England. So you need to apply this autumn.
