Chase Bridge in Twickenham/Whitton - anyone any experience?

Hi - this is my first post on Mumsnet so thanks in advance to anyone who answers!

My son will start school next September and our nearest school in Chase Bridge. We're planning on sending him private for secondary school so just wondered if anyone had any experience or perspective on Chase Bridge? It seems like a friendly place and the children all seem happy, also the new buildings are amazing, but the Ofsted report (particular the comment on attainment for boys) worried me a bit. Do they push the more able children? Do many children go on to private (or grammar) secondary??

seen chase bridge this year for my ds and loved it lovely building friendly kids and impressive head but went for another school

child in my ds nursery going there heard loads of good things about the school good reputation and has great grounds

If you don't mind telling which school did you send your ds ? We might move to the area and my ds will start reception in 2015. So am looking for options around the area- private or state.

hi i went for chatsworth primary school as i have heard really good things about it. do you know the school. not one person i have spoken to has said anything bad about it and got good rep and good results. name change by the way

parents from whitton twickenham applied for this school rather then chase bridge and nelson. same as chase bridge in rep but think its abit higher in sats and also had a outstanding ofsted before but is now good

By "next September" do you mean 2013 or 2014? I've not heard such great thing about Chase Bridge. But I only know one person who has gone there, so perhaps not a very accurate sample.

what is it not a good school because everyone i spoken to but their kids do not go their bounce up and down with excitement and say its a great school. looking at body language that is. whats your experience of this school interested to know.

Well, the child I know is not white, and that was a bit of an issue. I don't really know the details but the mum referred to the culture there as "a bit small minded", and is much happier with the school he now attends (in Twickenham).

I also put a lot of faith in the league tables because they speak volumes about whom your child will go to school with. Not so much about the teaching.

Also, consider what borough you want to be in for school. For example, being in a Richmond Borough school will give you access to Richmond Music Trust, which is very nice. I don't know if Hounslow has an equivalent.

dont know but glad i didnt pick that school now as i felt cultural issues would be an issue for my son as i noticed that most of the children at that school were white and did not want my son to be left out as we are mixed race. chatworth has allot of mix in it so my son will hopefully be more at home

All three of my children have been to Chase Bridge and it has been excellent for them. The only reason it isn't higher in the league tables is that it takes a fairly diverse population, being fairly close to Hounslow, and also there is a bit of coming and going because it caters for the army families at Kneller Hall. My children went on to private schools and in fact oldest, who went to King's College School in Wimbledon, came out top in his first year ahead of the kids who'd been at King's since they were 5.

whats wrong with taking kids from hounslow. chatsworth is in hounslow and are getting better results than chase bridge and other schools are taking children from hounslow in twickenham are doing better then chase bridge like st edmunds etc. lots of very good schools in hounslow

chase bridge was satisfactory before and has only just become a three form entry and having a bulge class last year as a two form it was not taking any children from hounslow as was not that close to border. i live on the border and could not get in if it was two form as it was one mile or under. if children where getting in from hounslow when it was a two form entry it would have been a very small amount. so dont agree nenny pops think ur just looking for someone to blame for it not doing better.

got next door neighour that wanted chase bridge for her child but could not get in as it was a two form and was not close enough and i live on the whitton border. this was a few years back but still counts only opened to hounslow children in 2011.

I went there!!!!!!!!!!

That was in the early 70s!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry - haven't lived in the area since I moved to the Midlands in the mid 80s. Just excited to see the name of the school here!!!

My memories (for what they're worth) are all ok.

The best thing was the school shut early when the Varsity match was played at Twickenham and it was often on my birthday!!!!! Woah! Result!

Don't know if that still happens.

It used to have an outdoor swimming pool that was FREEZING even in the really hot summers in the mid 70s.

Sorry - this is of no help at all is it??

Nothing whatsoever wrong with taking children from Hounslow, I didn't say there was. It's simply the case that the schools which come highest in the league tables in Richmond are in the more privileged parts of the borough. Why are you so prickly, Pizzahutlover? I wasn't criticising Chatsworth in the least, this isn't a competition, and the fact that I found Chase Bridge to be excellent doesn't hurt you or your children, does it?

FWIW, it's not true that CB only opened to Hounslow children in 2011. Schools are not allowed to refuse children from neighbouring boroughs, and there have certainly been plenty of Hounslow children there all the time my children have been there.

no you said if u read that chase bridges league table is not so high as chase bridge takes from a fairly diverse population as it takes from hounslow. it has only started taking children from hounslow so how do hounslow children affect their results if they have only started taking them on. no im on border and i could not get in if it was a two form entry if children were getting in who only be a small amount so could not affect results that much. i lived in hounslow all my life and some of the best schools in the country are here so dont know how hounslow children affect results. i know no school can refuse a child but children will only be accepted if their within a certain distance from the school as lots of children are applying u should no that so no children from 2011 downwards would have a chance of getting in there from hounslow so your incorrect

some of the best schools are in twickenham as well likel st james and orleans infants and bishop perin. my next door neighours child goes their bishop perin and they have great results and are outstanding. lots of hounslow kids go st edmunds as well and great results dont know what ur talking about great schools in twickenham too.
