Home educating -bright child

Hi,
We have just started home schooling our 8 year old. He attained level 4's across recent year 3 tests, which we think is pretty good. He was bored in school and really started to switch off. We were wondering if anyone has used a specific curriculum at home that is suitable for a bright child.
He is musical and so we will give him lots of time to spend on this. If any one has any words of wisdom, it would be great. Also, does anyone know any HE groups in North Manchester?

Might be better off posting in the G&T section. My DS is a level 5 in maths (recent y3 optional sats and I've realised a lot of parents don't like to hear those sorts of results unless they're there themselves)

We use Galore Park for some subjects. They do 3 junior books for years 3-5 and 3 'prep' books for years 6-8. They are aimed at selective prep schools and they usually say that in non-selective they are for the following year (ie year 4-6 and 7-9). They are quite dry in places but are academically rigorous!

We use lots of other resources, including many from the States - Well Trained Mind and Pandia Press and also pick up cheap/free resources from currclick and scholastic (scholastic do dollar downloads fairly often!)

Do you find that your child/children move through them fairly quickly?
may I ask, do you use books across all subject areas? I was planning on core at this level of support and then formulating my own schemes for other subjects such as ICT, art ...

I occasionally go on the HE board here but am also on a forum for structured HEers here which is a private forum.

We tend to use GP books as they are intended (1 per year) although have taken longer with the French. We try to use History Odyssey as it's intended (1 book per year) but sometimes it takes a little longer. Art and craft, and ICT we do on an ad hoc basis (although we have started meeting up with another family for art/craft/sewing etc). For geography we use all sorts of bits and pieces, quite a few from scholastic. Science we do with another family and French I run 2 groups for my 3 DCs and DCs from 3 other families.

Meeting up with other HE families sounds like a great idea. I just need to make some contacts, I am working on it!!
