cotton school trousers - are they worth it?

I'm wondering about school uniform (I know, its only May!).

A friend was saying that polyester/teflon school trousers can't be that nice to wear all day. How nasty are they? How horrid are 100% cotton ones to look after?

Dd isn't allergic to anything (no excema) and I am very allergic to ironing!

Are cotton ones part of your uniform though ? most school stuff is easy care , minimal ironing and ds, who can be sensitive ,has never complained !

The uniform is "grey trousers/skirt/dress, white or blue polo shirt, navy sweatshirt or cardigan" so I can get what I like.

Depends on their interpretation of "grey" though - they would probably expect trousers from a school range. Perhaps go and watch current kids come out and see how much you can get away with.

John Lewis and Asda both do a school range in 100% cotton. So I can get them and they will look right. I was just wondering whether to bother!

In my experience, the cotton ones always get a hole in the knee when boys fall. The "mix" ones don't. I don't know why this should be, but it is. Also, I don't iron, so the other ones look better unironed. And they dry quicker too.

I would go and feel the trousers (in the shop obviously Wink) and see what you think

some of these teflon coated/easy care ones are horrible and some aren't

I think the M&S and John Lewis boy's ones are good. I also have a nice pair of girl's trousers from Sainsburys and one from Tescos.
