School places in Goring / Streatley area

Hi - I currently live in North Yorkshire with my 6 year old son who attends the local primary in Y1, so he'll be going into Y2 in September.

My partner lives in Goring and we are hoping to move in with him after 2 years of long-distance this summer.

I was hoping that there might be people living in this area who could offer advice about the current school place situation - has anybody made the move to Goring and not been able to get a place? If so, whereabouts do Goring residents send their children to school? Are all local schools full? I know that things can change and children may move last minute so there can never be certainty but it would be good to have a general picture, in particular advice from anyone who has moved into this area and not been able to get their child into a local school.

Thanks

Goring has a double intake for Reception this September - but as far as a 6 year old is concerned I dont know. Streatley, South Stoke (small) and Woodcote are other local options. I would phone the school - but guess you have already done that?

Hi GoringDad - thanks for your reply. Yes, I've contacted all of those schools, was just hoping for a bit of insider knowledge as to whether it's usual for incomers to the area to end up being shipped out to distant schools.

I don't know about whether the schools have places. However, Streatly is a lovely, lovely school so I have my fingers crossed for you!

I can also tell you there is no shortage of teaching jobs down here. If you would commute to my LA you would have your arm bitten off.

Hi - thanks so much for your reply. It's good to hear about the teaching jobs as I've been checking the TES every day for the past year but barely anything has come up (I'm secondary MFL).

It's really reassuring to not hear any horror stories about children being shipped out for miles to school too. Feeling much more hopeful!

Any other local info about schools gratefully received.

Oh, I don't really know about the Secondary situation. You might have more joy with Greensheets than the TES. It is well used by the local schools.

My school (Primary) would be interested in a French teacher!!?? Wink

hi Inclusionist - if you're serious, please could you PM me??
Thanks

obv only just got this...and probably too late

streatley is a great school, extremely friendly, with excellent teachers; smaller than goring (i think 16 kids a year), and does have space in a few classes . One of the benefits (?) of a smaller school is mixed years (so 3 and 4 are together etc).

One thing to bear in mind though is that it's a different county to goring, and therefore different secondary schools. So you may not get into the same secondary school as all your peers at the end of year 6.

Hi
I am exactly in your situation now as you seemed to be in 2013!
My daughter and I are moving from Dorset to Pangbourne and looking at the primary schools( in year transfer). After two years of long distance relationship with my partner between oxfordshire and Dorset, we are planning to be under the same roof! Quite Scary!
My daughter,Millie really wants to stay put because she loves her school. its going to be tough and I should hear this week where she will go....Options Whitchurch, Pangbourne and Goring ( Streatley is full)
Where did you find a place in the end? I would be so interested to know any tips now you have moved?!
