We are moving DS who is currently in reception to our 1st choice school which is much closer to our house - we have been on the waiting list until now. Does anyone have experience of moving a child at this age? Any tips on how to make the transition easier? I am feeling bad for him to have to move!
Thanks

We moved our DS in reception to our first choice school and felt really guilty at the time. He had made a couple of really good friends but felt that at 5 years old he had plenty of time to make new ones! He did know some children in our first choice so it was a little easier. We talked about all the positives; in your case, closer to home, can walk/scoot/cycle to school, local friends etc. He settled in really well and it was the best decision. He is now in year 3 and is extremely happy. Good luck, I'm sure it will work out for best x

Thank you for your good advice! That's really great to hear. Yes I am feeling guilty... but as you say they are only 5 years old in reception, so plenty of time to make new friends!
xx
