Bromley schools

We are planning to move to Kent. My wife and I work in London. My friends say that Bromley would be a good place to live in Kent. My biggest priority is my daughters schooling; she is 3.5 and will start reception in 2014.

How is Bromley for schooling? Could you suggest me few good primary schools in Bromley? Are their any feeder secondary schools?

Bromley is good but heavily oversubscribed at the moment. We live in West Wickham, good trains to London (DH and I both work in Central London), good primary schools, public and state. General Bromley has a good mix for public/state for secondary as well. There is a Grammar school for girls and for boys but your child needs to pass the 11+ quite good to get a place, again heavily oversubscribed.

As far as I know we have co-ed secondary and a boy/a girl schools where the children will feed into. Beckenham has more issues with secondary, it seems there are some black spots.

I would investigate Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells as well (plus possibly Maidstone) as possibly there may be less pressure on primary places there and you will be nearer to the selective secondary schools should you want them. You realise Bromley is in Greater London not Kent?

Bromley is a mix. Talking to locals you will find they think they live in Kent, regardless that officially we are a London borough.

Postal wise and in some part, phone wise, we belong to Kent, not London.

It takes us less time to go by car to Dover than by train to North London.
