Cursive handwriting - free resources wanted

Could you recommend a good source of worksheets or any tips to support a child learning to do joined up handwriting? DD is in year 1 and struggling to do this - she stubbornly prefers to print. Up to now I have let her do what she wishes, as she is happy to write, but I've heard that failing to join up writing can lead to children being marked down in SATS. What is the truth?

Technically the child must use some joined handwriting for a level 3 but the examples on the DfE site don't have joined ...it isn't vital.

The best resource is handwriting lines and an adult.

Ask the school if they can provide you with templates. Our school uses a different font style than a neighbouring one. There are tons of examples on the web but we got our style directly from the school for home practise.

We have a completely unique handwriting style so have to make our own resources ...

When I was teaching, I used my ancient copy of Nelsons handwriting book religiously.
I'm sure you can pick up an old cheap copy on Amazon..

Hi Campaspe:

Someone posted this on MN a while back: www.handwritingworksheets.com/flash/cursive/

worksheet generator at base - just scroll down & select the type you want.

I tend to put spelling words on this and have DDs copy 3 times. Seemed to help a lot.
