There's really no need to do anything special.
Read regularly, encourage her to write little notes (or longer stories), play board games, do baking ...

Remember that the SATs tests are merely extra evidence for the teacher. The "mark" you'll get will be based on continuous teacher assessment, not just the tests.

KS1?

allow them to go past in blissful ignorance

they really don't warrant any extra work on top of what you would do to support their education anyway

Thankyou for your replies ladies it reassures me as DD is my only child..
My dd has told me that they were given sheets this week with different questions , i.e money, subtraction etc and letters that resemble numbers my dd hasn't done this & felt that she done badly.. I presume that this was an assessment it's all so worrying ..

SATs are primarily a check that the school is providing effective a n appropriate teaching. The primary function is not to be a measure of an individual child's performance. Unfortunately that's just the best way to check that they are being taught the right stuff, in an effective manner.
The assessment of the child is a side effect of needing to assess the school.

I have a yr 2 and am not doing anything. I think sats at this stage are just to get a measure of ability.

'SATS at this stage' are teacher assessment, the same as Y1, Y3, Y4, etc, etc - except that a small part of the evidence has to be a test, and the teacher assessment has to be reported to parents.

Help her if you like - ask the teacher how you can do this - but don't feel as if you have to. She's only being assessed on the same aspects of the curriculum as she always is, and will continue to be.
