Dd seems to lack confidence

Hi
My dd started school in September she has made a few really lovely friends but seems to lack confidence with them.
When I take her in the morning she won't go and play in the playground with them she always wants to hold my hand. All the other children are running around playing and holding hands walking to the classroom yet she won't join in. It like this at parties she will sit with me and not join in when the others are having so much fun.
Has anybody got any ideas of how I can help her to be more confident.

Thanks
X

Does she have any problems with her hearing at all? A child I know like this had undiagnosed glue-ear, couldn't hear what her friends were saying and found it all a bit intimidating - easily fixed though, and what a difference!

If she's made friends it could just be that she'd rather be with you just because you are there. Maybe just drop her off and watch from a distance?

Or ask the other children she's friends with if she can join them when you are dropping her off and you leave?

My DD can be like this, she just needs time to "warm up".

At parties and after-school clubs she is fine if I leave the room, but ultra-clingy if I am there.
