understanding assessment levels in primary school

Hi
Could someone please help me with understanding levels for primary school, as I would like to understand where my daughter stands. She is in yr4 at the moment and working on level 4b and probably will be at 4a by the end of the yr. My question here is if any teachers of parents of secondary school kids, in their experience be able to guide me, that would she be able to achieve level 5 at the end of yr 5, though I do understand that no one can predict exactly how she will do.

The reason For asking is that we are planning to sit her for entrances for indie schools. Did enquire with a few like north london collegiate and city of london, what they say a tentative sign is if she gets a level 5 at end of yr 5...she will be tutored but still confused with her abilities , where she stands
thanks

If she is a level 4a at the end of year 4 then she would be expected to be a around a 5b at the end of year 5, certainly the school would need to ensure she was at least a 5c to show any progress at all!

Yes, if she ids a secure level 4 now, she should be at level 5 by the end of year 5.

Hi Shivlo:

If you haven't come across this yet, Mumsnet Learning pages has a section on assessment here: www.mumsnet.com/learning/assessment/introduction if you read through (especially section on how pupils progress through NC Levels) it may help to put your mind at rest.

NC Level 4b is in fact the target set by the government for the notional average child to achieve on KS2 SATs in May of Y6 - so you're DD is doing very well indeed if she's working to this in English & Maths.
