World Book Day Character for an almost 10 year old boy who doesn't like dressing up

He's Y5 (so almost 10). In the past we've done the popular (Harry Potter, Robin Hood, King Arthur, Charlie Bucket) and the more obscure (Bap the Baker from 'The Giant Jam Sandwich', 'It' from 'Five Children and It').

Any other ideas would be very welcome or I can feel a bit of recycling coming on!

Looking forward to secondary school when hopefully this dressing up lark stops.

DS1 is loving his greek and roman myths book, so perhaps someone from one of those stories?

If you are of the Christian faith how bout David, as in David and Goliath?

spudmasher · 23/02/2013 20:30

Not doing this in my school this year for this very reason.
Just send him in his out of school clothes with a diary in his hand.......Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

spudmasher · 23/02/2013 20:31

Not saying your Ds is wimpy........just a solution!!!!

chocolatespiders · 23/02/2013 20:33

Charlie bucket with cardboard golden ticket.

pellshky · 23/02/2013 20:34

Marking my place and feeling your pain. DD loved this kind of thing when she was still at primary school. DS (Y6) does not. Roll on secondary school too. TBH DS will probably be happy turning up in school uniform. I will encourage him to do something, but not sure what!

wisemanscamel · 23/02/2013 20:34

Yep, another one here doing Diary of a Wimpy Kid. No dressing up required. Wish his sister was this straightforward.

spudmasher · 23/02/2013 20:36

Girls....Lavender, Matilda.....easy!!!

YouBrokeMySmoulder · 23/02/2013 20:38

My ds just refuses to do this now and marches in with a look of disdain in his uniform. I tried to persuade him that he would feel left out but apparently he's fine with it.

LackaDAISYcal · 23/02/2013 20:38

George from George's MArvellous medicine...jeans and a red t shirt and a bottle of goop.

pellshky · 23/02/2013 20:39

@spudmasher Diary of a Wimpy Kid - genius - thanks!

pellshky · 23/02/2013 20:41

@YouBrokeMySmoulder - good for your DS!

RaisinBoys · 23/02/2013 21:47

Thanks all - ideas much appreciated.

@spudmasher Yes to Diary of Wimpy Kid - brilliant! And no offence taken!

@LackaDAISYcal - My sis has just suggested George too! Great idea & he loves Roald Dahl.

@YouBrokeMySmoulder - what a great DS you have there. There's a little bit of his wonderful attitude in my DS, but still quite a bit of the wanting to conform!

Alex Rider - jeans, trainers and any cool technology you can fake up for the occasion

fudgelover · 23/02/2013 22:11

My son went as James Bond. Just look on ebay for cheap suits. X small .

fudgelover · 23/02/2013 22:13

Mr bump was also one - just dress in blue and add a bandage. Where's Wally is another good one.

RaisinBoys · 24/02/2013 00:55

Thanks all - really grateful Smile

Jeans, t shirt, hoody.
Harry Potter, Alex Rider, Charlie Bucket, Percy Jackson - any character from any book a 10 yr old might read.
No need for any props -they can just carry the book.
There are a lot of older boys at my dc school who don't do dressing up and just treat it as a mufti day.

Happymum22 · 24/02/2013 18:59

muggle from harry potter- i.e. normal clothes :D

BikeRunSki · 24/02/2013 19:01

pashapasta · 24/02/2013 20:10

Charlie Cook from Charlie Cook's Favourite Book. Jeans, red and white stripey top and a pile of books.
