1.We had parents evening last week for dd1 in year 4 outside I was looking in her books and all her writing has been marked on an app grid as 3c they had recently had mid year tests and during our appointment dh enquired about what level she was working at and the teacher pulled out her test booklets and read 3a for writing. I said that is a lot higher than in her class work and the teacher said "we go buy the tests". Is this right? Is their no teacher assessed element in their reported levels?

  1. Looking at the league table for the school it says that the value added is 100.9 for the school. Does this mean most children make 2 full levels of progress during ks2

Were the APP grids filled in to date? (when I see my DC's they always seem to lag a little behind).
My understanding is that the test results are to inform their overall mark. I know DS has got one mark in a test but his teacher has put his "real" level at a sublevel higher or lower. Writing particularly I could imagine is a bit variable.

Also, teachers don't have to report levels at Year 4, so whether your DD is 3c or 3a is really a bit meaningless - either way she's well within "normal" levels for her age group.

Value add of 100 means the school has done what was expected (the 2 levels during KS2). So your school is slightly above this.

Red sky for every written piece of work at the end they stick in a app grid and mark accordingly. I know writing can differ in quality. So you can see at a glance what level it is. It's a long story carol - it wasnt meant to be so public. Are you free tomorrow At all? Dd's school are very levels orientated the kids know what levels they are on (and their friends).
