Recommend a Maths Tutor in Ealing

Afternoon all, I'm after a Math Tutor for my 9 yr old daughter. She is in Yr 5 and lacks confidence with maths and struggles a little. I think with some extra help outside school she will gain confidence and hopefully excel and maybe even enjoy math! Any personal recommendations gratefully received.

I too am looking for maths and English tutor to do exam practise with my 13 year old daughter who does well in class but panics and looses confidence in tests - any suggestions in the Ealing area?

I've posted elsewhere about the freedom/ flexibility of on-line maths tutorials and how video gaming platforms really suit learning fundamental mathematical concepts.

Although I'm sure the tutors above are worth investigating - it may also be worthwhile considering an on-line tutorial.

We opted for Carol Vorderman's Mathsfactor for our two DDs and have never looked back. The programme starts from where you are at (by testing you) and each lesson starts with a video from Carol discussing the principle you are working on that day, a quick quiz (quickfire test on simple addition and later subtraction and multiplication are added in) or a simple game on that concept and then a 'homework' which usually is between 20 - 30 traditional maths problems to work through.

Other parents on MN have sung the praises of mathletics (www.mathletics.co.uk/) and math whizz (www.whizz.com/).

I think all over free trials. They are all slightly different so it may be worthwhile having an explore but including your DD to determine which one she likes best.

Finally - at such a young age, you may have to support work on-line by helping to type in answers at first. I found this stage very useful because it meant I kept a close eye on what was being taught/ learned, I understood what the programme was driving at and its content and I was aware of the various games/ options available that my DD could do additionally. I think all the programmes track progress and regularly send reports to parents so you understand how your child is progressing.
