year 1 targets- have they changed this year?

Hi, can anyone help? I recently had a parents evening and my ds teacher informed me what levels my ds was at.She then went on to say they would like them to achieve a 1A at the end of Year 1 and it used to be 1B.
Do you think this is a target set by the school? or has the levels changed recently to raise standards. Thank you.

My DC school recently changed their reading targets for the end of yr1 to take into account the yr1 phonics test. They raised it from a 1B to a 1 A. But all other subjects are still a 1B.

However a child who ends yr1 on a 1B is still capable of getting a 2B at the end of yr2.

Our parents evening last night, and we were told the same thing they would like 1a at the end of year 1 across all subjects.

I did think that was higher than when dd1 was in year 1, so it does look like some schools have increased the targets.

No it will have been set by the school.

There is no target for end of yr1 only what is expected at the end of yr2 and so schools then give targets for yr1 so make sure they are on track for yr2 iyswim.

1B is an expectation for most children based on end of KS1 expectation (there is no official level for Y1) obviously individual children may be capable of achieving higher levels which will be reflected in their personal targets.

Schools seem to be setting more aspirational targets this year and a few heads have told me that it's because OFSTED are looking for 'good progress' not 'expected progress'.
