DD1 has to do an 'Alphabet Grid' - what on earth is one.

There seems to be two types, one for younger children and one for older. For the younger children you make a grid with, say, thirty squares. In each of the first twenty six squares you put a letter of the alphabet and in the remaining four you use common letter combinations such as sh and ch. Then you write a word or draw a picture of an object in each square beginning with the letter in the box (apple, bum etc).

In the second type you make a similar grid, but this time the whole grid is based on a particular theme. For instance, if the theme were war, the boxes could contain words such as Army and Battle. Strangely, the point of this is to get youngsters to think 'out of the box'.

Hope this helps.

Thank You.

DD1 is in yr 4. So I'm right in thinking it a word search type grid using the words from her homework theme.
