There was an incident at DS2's junior school yesterday. A pipe in the boys toilets was deliberately damaged causing a flood. Head called a meeting of all the boys, they were collectively given a stern talking to and asked to come forward to see him privately if they were responsible. He specifically said he didn't want to hear from any other children, just the person responsible.
Immediately afterwards, one of DS2's friends (X) suffered a panic attack, although not responsible AFAIK, he is a worrier. When I asked DS2 why all the boys had been called to a meeting today his first response was "it wasn't me". It hadn't occurred to me it might be until then
Anyway, DS2 says he saw it happen and it was boy Y, who jumped on the pipe. He didn't say anything at school because the head had said he shouldn't. Fair enough.
Today I have heard that another boy, Z, has owned up, been punished and his parents have been asked to pay for the repair.
I only mention X because if DS2 was there there's a good chance X was too, which could be why he was distressed. I did consider reporting what DS2 said to the school, but decided to stay out of it.
BTW I know all this because I work/volunteer in the school and I was there (not in boys' toilets obv) so I could have a quiet word with the head, but I don't generally have that kind of relationship with him and have never asked for or expected me and my children to be treated any differently to any other family. DS2 is not always entirely reliable in his story telling (all the boys concerned are year 5 or 6. WWYD?
