DD physically hurt 3 times

Another girl has kicked, slapped and scratched my 4.4 DD on 3 separate occassions since last September.

I have therefore asked for a meeting with the nursery teacher. The nursery is part of an Oustanding school.

What can I reasonably expect the staff to do about this issue? Should I also escalate it to their head of early years, and even the Head teacher?

I don't know if I am overreacting. I am more upset than DD - she only mentioned the incidents when I asked her how she got the injuries I noticed on her.

Hi Ilovesnow:

I think it is always best to start with the old addage: it takes two to fight

Several things occur -

  1. You have no idea how much scratching/ kicking/ pulling/ shoving your own child did as well. Usually these things erupt in disputes over toys at this young age (4 years old).

  2. The child concerned may have 'issues' - anything from learning disabilities to a troubled home life. It's easy to get upset that your DC has been hurt - but most likely she'll survive and there may be some serious problems with the other child, which can't be easily solved.

  3. I'm summarising here - but sometimes there's quite a bit of other things going on in the background when children scratch each other:

My DD2 in nursery scratched another child on her face (not surprising as DD2 has incredibly sharp nails and if I forget to trim them weekly they are deadly) and this scratch left a small scar. The girl was Afro-Carribean and the mother went postal - we had destroyed their daughter's beautiful black face with this ugly peach scar (
