Eagle House School, Yateley Manor or else?

Hi there

I have 2 children and I would love to hear your views on Eagle House school or Yateley Manor as we are looking to move from Eagle House to a different school as we are feeling let down by the school. I would really appreciate you sharing your views..We haven't made our mind up yet as the prospect of moving school is daunting and the kids have their friends etc...I don't want an extremely pushy school, I would much rather prefer a school with a nurturing environment where each child feels they can thrive..

Hi!

I've had several friends send their's to EH,with mixed reviews. I know some chn who have got on fine there and have left happy... Very close friend, though, has been unhappy having her's there for a bit now and felt they didn't offer enough individual provision and that priorities were misplaced. Have you thought about Holme Grange? VERY good individual provision, with a focus on the whole child, rather than purely pushing grades. I'm afraid I can't comment too much on YM, though I have heard fine things. Would say that HG is worth a look though? Good Luck!

YM has a very good reputation locally, friends children have been there, not sure where they feed on to and they move at 11. Theres quite a few prep schools in the area, though EH is always viewed as the junior bit of Wellington. Lyndhurst and Hall Grove are also well thought of.

Hall Grove is worth serious thought. My youngest is still there and wish we'd known about it for the eldest. Very academic school but manages, somehow, to fit in sport/music/drama so children can shine outside of academic work if their talents are elsewhere. Also has a smaller campus in Devon where all children get to visit and learn about farming. Look at the website and Tatler for more details.

Thanks so much for your comments. Really helps. We have narrowed down the schools to Yateley Manor and a much smaller school in Camberley called Lyndhurst as HOlme G and Hall Grove are too out of the way for us.
If you have any pointers to help us make our decision that would be lovely.
I have been very impressed with YM particularly the head. Lyndhurst is much smaller so definitely has an individual approach to the child however my concern is that it lacks breadth of activities due to very small size. I am so undecided.....

I've a daughter at YM - generally very happy with the school, most teaching is very good indeed. There are a few weaknesses - some english teaching's been a bit lacking in the last year or two, for example - but overall I'd recommend it.

They've been very impressive on areas like bullying - only a few minor outbreaks and those firmly sat on almost immediately.

One thing to recall, though, which might affect your decision. Although the school is not selective, it seems to attract a few VERY bright kids indeed, which can be a bit off-putting for the rest. Having said that, they set/stream from very early (year 3/4 from memory) so your child will get appropriate challenge

Not sure you're still interested but have you considered St Neots which is near Yateley Manor? My kids spent a year there and we absolutely loved it. So much space and fun stuff going on.
I really disliked eagle house when we visited. They were too full of the 'we are the Wellington College feeder' for my liking as if that was supposed to impress me. I also found them very pushy which I didn't like at all. DD1 is academically gifted and the last thing I wanted for her was a pushy environment. Some people love it though!

My daughter is at YM and we are very pleased with it so far. Leadership is very strong and it's progressive but maintains a 'family' atmosphere. They are working on their new buildings they have aquired which will lead to more arts-based facilities. They already have a swimming pool, excellent sports pitches, large modern indoor hall etc.. DD is very happy there and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

My oldest will start Yateley Manor in Sept '14 and we're thinking of sending my younger one at the same time. It's great to hear that you would recommend it. I've done a lot of research. YM does seem to have a great deal of strengths. My youngest was at the nursery and it was outstanding.

I have friends at Hawley place school & they seem very happy there - might be too far away though.

Have you considered Sherfield School at Sherfield-on-Loddon ? Progressive School with the new Head, lots of plans etc. The website needs updating so don't take too much notice of it, but definitely a school to pursue.

Hi there- I thought I would just provide an update for those who are still undecided. We have started at YM in September and so far, the children are absolutely loving it..Communication with parents is great ..
I hope it helps anyone who is considering a move there..

Hi Anchorman- sorry to bother you but am currently having the same debate as you were last year. Can i ask if you have been pleased with YM? We Have a son who would be starting on year 3.

I used to go to this school when I was younger and from first hand experience I would advise not to go to this school since the teachers are unproffesional, one sweared at us once, they only think that when you have done something supposedly 'wrong' they will always trust the younger person, since apperently they are more trustworthy than the people who are older, like what!
