Advice please - changing schools in year 5

DD has been unhappy at school for a while now - a combination of being a bored fairly bright kid in a large class and being part of a three-way friendship group. DD lacks confidence but is an easy-going kind little girl who, even after three years, still finds these friendship issues very difficult. After much thought we have decided to move her to another to finish her primary schooling. New Headteacher very positive and already knows DD as DD has a younger sibling in the new school. Can anyone tell me how long a transfer may take and offer any advice regarding transition please. Thankyou.

We did this when Dd2 was in year 4. It was a great move. In our case see stayed at old school until half term and then started new school after the holiday. This was recommended by the head and worked well. It gave her a few weeks to get used to the change.

Luckily dd2 settled in her new school fairly quickly. It helped that there was a uneven number of girls in her class so she automatically had a 'partner' when it was needed.

I think it can depend on the dynamics of the class though as to how easy it is to integrate.

Dd2 found it quite interesting to be the new girl!

Good luck

Thank you, Impty. You have made me feel more positive. I feel guilty that we haven't done this before now but we wanted her to stick at it and try and resolve the friendship stuff prior to moving on.

She already knows a few children in the new school so I'm hoping this will make the transition a little easier.

People come and go from our school all the time and the dc (the ones that are there already) seem to love a new starter and enjoy showing them around etc.
