Can someone translate this message from School for me, please?

OK, so DS1 is in the school play (our first one). He's 4. The message DH has just shown me says:

DS1 is a Jingle Bell in the school play on Date. Please can he wear his own clothes.

Does this mean that I need to dress him as a jingle bell? or does it just mean send him in anything but uniform (he's going to be devastated!).

And, if needed, how do I dress a 4 year old as a jingle bell tomorrow????!!! I have access to Tesco and zero crafty ability!

He wears his own clothes, that is it. You don't need to dress him as a jingle bell.

I think it sounds like he should be in his own clothes and will be ringing jingle bells but I'm no expert.

I think it would have said 'please can he wear his own costume' if you were supposed to dress him as a jingle bell. I hope! It's not very clear.

I would interpret that as wear non uniform. If you were expected to provide a costume they (surely) would have sent a letter home several weeks ago. I expect that either they have been making costumes at school (most likely) or they have some "in stock". Ask your DS, he may know? Can you ask him who the other jingle bells are and contact their parents to see if they have insight?

Thank-you. He's still going to be devastated that he can't wear uniform. He loves it, but at least I don't need to spend my first day at home in a week making costumes.

So, back to me relaxing Sunday!

we have never had to provide a costume but may be asked to dress them in a specific colour e.g. white top, black top and trousers, etc. Sounds like he just has to wear no uniform and any of his own clothes

It means wear normal clothes not school uniform

Another vote for non uniform.

If they wanted a costume they'd have put something along the lines of "please wear a yellow t-shirt and green trousers/tights"

They'll probably have a bell for him to carry or a picture to hold.
