KS1 & KS2 reading and writing standards

Hi, can anyone please help me out?

I have a meeting at school about my sons reading/writing. It would be really useful to know what the national standards/targets are for childrens reading/writing etc from years R to 4 before I go. Although it is an outstanding school, they won't happily share information with parents although I have heard if you ask directly for this information they may tell you depending on the teacher.

I have seen references on various papers stating by the end of year 1 children should be at level 1A/2C but I haven't been able to find out more than this although I am certain it exists somewhere. I would have thought their would be a published table?

I also tried without success to find out this information via the DoE but the person who dealt with this in the policy team has moved department and won't help. I can't get further than the DoE call centre who are also unbelievably unhelpful...very frustrating!!

any guidance that members could give would be gratefully received. I may request my child's education record under the Education Act and or the Data Protection Act.

By the end of Y2 all children should be a level 2.

By the end of Y6 all children should be a level 4.

That's it. That's all the guidance the DofE gives schools.

What else are you looking for?

The child performing in a nice linear "as expected" way (i.e. the type that doesn't exist in real life) will achieve levels as follows:

(levels as at end of year)
Reception - 5/6 on each section of EYFS
Y1 - 1b/1a
Y2 - 2b
Y3 - 2c/3a
Y4 - 3b

The only "published" figure is the 2b at the end of KS1 (and then 4b at the end of KS2).

In terms of what the "as expected" child might be actually doing, this will vary by child. You can google to find details of what a child working at Level 1,2,3 is expected to be doing.

Thank you both so much, really appreciate your help, I thought I was going mad as I couldn't find anything really on the web. I should have posted here first and saved all this stress. Totally understand the fact that children learn at different paces so i need to take into account the 'as expected'.

Can you please confirm is KS1 up until the end of year 2 and the KS2 years 3&4?

KS1 is Y1 and 2. KS2 is Y3 - 6.

Sorry, I just got confused as I have a child in yr3!!!

The wording from the DfE is
Level 2 is the level expected of most 7 year olds; Level 4 is the level expected of most 11 year olds; Levels 5 or 6 are the levels expected of most 14 year olds

Hi everyone, thank you for your help. Got on well today at the meeting. Am going to be asking for my sons education record although apparently the head teacher has to approve?!

Anyway he's '10+' for his reading - if anyone knows what this is/means can you please advise. The meeting was running late as the teacher was late so it was all very hurried. I wrote lots of hurried notes but didn't write what that term meant.
