DD is in Y2 and I need to support her with her maths. Can anybody recommend a book etc... that would help me with teaching her concepts etc.. I don't have a clue how things like division/multiplication are taught. I have looked on amazon and seen a few books that may help but thought I would ask here for recommendation. Thanks

Look at the websites

mathletics
mathswhizz
mathsfactor

google them and mumsnet to see what people say about them.

We were recommended this book by the school:

www.amazon.co.uk/Maths-Mums-Dads-Rob-Eastaway/dp/0224086359/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354231587&sr=8-1

It's not so much a book to follow for your dd, but more of explains the new methods of teaching maths so that you can support her in the right way.

Thanks learnandsay - I will check out those websites.

Blanksquit - yes that's what I am looking for something to explain methods used - I had already looked at that book on Amazon and it did seem good - I will go and order now - thanks!

These videos by the Khan Academy are just what you need. I'm using them with DS1. I didn't know maths could be so easy. www.khanacademy.org/math/arithmetic

I got a copy of that "Maths for Mums and Dads" last week, and so far it looks really good. I was hopeless at Maths at school, and so not very confident when helping DD.

The book outlines how your child is taught Maths through Primary and has loads of fun exercises and games to help them learn.

I can recommend it.

DD is in Y2 and finished Y1 on a 1c for Maths. I signed her up for Maths Factor in September and she is currently working at a 2b. 4 sublevels in one term.

I had tried books without success.
