Getting an occasional place at London (especially North/ outer) preps

Trying to move dc (year 3) to one of a couple of North London preps we have shortlisted. Do many children leave during or at the end of year 3 in your dc's school? Want to get an idea of our chances.
Does anyone have experience of this?

I think all you can do is call the schools and ask what your chances are. Of course parents do move house so children will move.

But bear in mind that most schools will have done a 7+ entry into year 3 so, having gone through that process, I'd say it would be unlikely that anyone would move for any reasons other than a geographical move.

Definitely call the schools. Many have occasional vacancies. I know that North Bridge House does, Channing does, st Mary's in Hampstead for example. Can you please be more specific about the area? Is it north London (zone2/3) or north London/Hertfordshire?

Emanuela, Outer North London. I guess I wanted to know examples of how many kids move in people's classes at the end of year 3 (I agree it's much more likely to be due to moving area/ country at this stage).

Well my honest opinion is that it's very, very rare if the school has had a bug intake into yr 3, as many of them do. But if they don't have a 7+ entry then your chances will be higher.

The schools concerned do have a 7+ entry but equally they have most of their kids from 4+.
I'm just hoping someone's parents have to move country for their job!
