How many sub levels per year in year 2?

I have used google here but there seems to be no set rule for how many sub levels is expected progress in y2?
What is the general rule in your school?

Children are expected to make roughly 2 full levels across each Key Stage. There are only 2 years in KS1 so that's a full level per year in KS2 it's 1 full level every 2 years
In my school the expectation is on the KS not on a single year group as my head realises children don't progress in a linear fashion.

Out of interest, if a child is a level 2b at the beginning of Y1 would they be expected to progress to a 3b this time next year, or would the bigger steps between sub levels in L3 and L4 mean that there would be fewer sub levels targetted?

I hope that makes sense; I'm still a bit confused about sub levels.

Across KS1 children should make 2 levels progress which equates to 6 sublevels. Children who progress in a nice linear fashion would make 3 in Y1 and 3 in Y2. However in reality not all children do this.

It's quite interesting about whether fewer sublevels would be targetted as it would be if the child was working at level 3 in KS2. My guess is that these children find learning quite easy and are successful, therefore they are more likely to make more progress.

Thanks pretty, I see what you mean and yes that makes complete sense. I was just wondering if there was a 'formula' that schools use or whether it was more random than that.

At our school the teacher at the end of the previous year suggests target levels for the end of the following year. e.g. if your child had just gone into Y2 then the Y1 teacher would have set the targets. These would then be based on where most children of that level have got to in the past, any SEN (i.e. something that they now have support for and would be expected to make more progress than usual or if they knew something was going to hold them back), personal factors, e.g. child has a lot of time off because of a chronic condition etc etc
In February the then current teacher might adapt these targets depending on how they've got on in the meantime.

So at our school there's no formula as such - however lots of intervention etc if children appear to be falling behind.

In my school, the target for year 2 is now a 2c (rather than a 2b) and the target for year 3 is a 3c. That's a lot of work for us in year 3...

Dd has been predicted 3b's for the end of y2 after finishing y1 on 2b's and I was a bit concerned it was a big ask and didn't want her being pushed to achieve it for sats purposes so it's reassuring to know that's 'normal' progress.

3c in year 3!!?? Count yourself lucky! Our year 3's all have to move 2.75 sublevels (????) and the year 2 teacher is very keen on over levelling her children. Most came up as a 2a.......great!

Wasn't there talk of the NC levels being stopped?

End of year 3 should be a 2a/3c, but we're now expected to have the kids on the higher of the two. And the expected for year 2 has gone done.

It makes their stats look fantastic (90-something % got a 2c+, whereas 2b+ was about 70%). So it's a big ask for us in year 3.

I do wonder where the 1.75 levels of progress comes from! All ups teachers have the target but main scale have 1.25 CRAZY!!
