If your reception child hurts themselves in school, do you get a note?

Just curious what the procedure is in other schools

DS came out with proper shiner today, and I don't really know what happened.

It's the second time too, so not a one off

If they bang their head you would because you need to look for tiredness or sickness. If they draw blood the teacher may have a quick word but I think we generally assume that the child will tell you themselves. The only real reason to discuss it is if they will need further attention.

Did your child tell the teacher? You cant assume the teacher knows themselves!

Ours come out with a sticker on their jumper saying I hurt myself. Inside book bag will be a pre printed letter with deletions as appropriate. I.e. x fell over and hurt his knee/head/arm. He went to the medical room where they ......

This was in reception. In older years they do away with the sticker and just go with the note.

If they bump their head or have head injury we are rung up just to let us know (all years).

Yes mine did, even for things as trivial as a scraped knee in the playground, so I am shocked that the school didn't notice your son's black eye. But it's possible nobody saw the incident and it only started to show after school? Presumably he would know though if somebody had deliberately punched him, or even if it was an accident, so I assume you have asked him what happened?
Insist he tells a teacher if it happens again!

We get a note for a head injury or something major, but not for grazed knees or anything like that.

I used stickers for "I had a bump" or "I scraped my knee" and a letter for head injuries (if an immediate phone call for collection wasn't required) but unfortunately stickers can disappear before the child gets home or even to the playground.

Our school sends home a note for anything that leaves a mark. If a child bumps their head and it isn't serious enough to be sent home they get a "please keep an eye on me" sticker so any adults they're with in the afternoon know to keep an eye on them.

Seems it was a collision with another child at playtime
Teacher was there and they both went to office and had ice packs

They are relying on 4-5 year olds to pass on details

That is really lax, I'm surprised by the school.

Not unless quite serious. Mine came home with all sorts of bruises and marks. Nothing ever reported. Unfortunately I think they do bash heads a bit whilst playing and there are one or two who strike out at others. Usually mine would tell me what happened though. Nothing deliberate or sustained from what I could tell.

I'm surprised. dds primary had an accident book and letter system as Pooka describes, and secondary has a very efficient system for potential head injuries, which dd2 has needed attention for twice in three years (I do wish she'd look where she's going, she'd still have two front teeth )

Ok- it seems that that the office is supposed to call me, teacher is going to ask why they didn't. But it is the 2nd time. Last time DS asked if the sec phoned me.

Still not convinced- I'd panic if I saw the school's phone number come up. And then worry that I should go and get him
I trust their judgement when dealing with it, would just like to know the details of what happened
