Where do I find KS1 Assessment Criteria? Cannot find on gov website

Hi, Have a query with DD1's Year 2 report and cannot find anywhere the assessment criteria which helps establish what she needs to achieve to move up from one level to another. i.e. 2c to a 2a. It seems a bit all over the shop with a 3c for reading but a 2c for writing? Can anyone help point me to the specific definition or is a secret teachers thing? Thanks so much!

We've been given handouts from the school. They're called APP - Assessing Pupil's Progress. There's a different handout for each thing - so reading, writing, maths, science.

Mine's the same. Writing lags behind reading.

I think its possible that you DD's handwriting may catch up with the reading level.

So when do they catch up please? And do I need to help?

Teacher has told me at recent assessment that reading's a 3 and writing's a 2c. Can't help thinking I need to help somehow. Especially when others in the same literacy group have very good writing.

When reaching the writing level it is far more than handwriting that is used. I have some Year 2s currently achieving a 2B and 2A and their handwriting is awful, others have immaculate handwriting, but are only a 1B. Don?t get waylaid by the handwriting thing.

It is not possible to identify what you need to do to support your child without seeing several examples of their work. What might help is for you to look at the APP Guidelines. If your child is a 2C they are achieving a good number of the level 2 statements, but which ones are they less strong at? To achieve a level 2A they need to evidence all the level 2 statements and some of the level 3. This all assumes your school uses APP (and not all do), but it is a useful starting point. If you find the statements on the Guidelines a bit mind-boggling try also looking at Standards File, these give examples of pupils? work at particular levels.

Thank you AbigailS sorry for late reply was away on business straight after parent meeting. Sort of sorted it with teacher but she is a neat freak so not overly hopeful that we will get any further without a 1-2-1 with a tutor. Reading age apparently 10yr11mth so I know we've got talent there it's all about how to ensure it is demonstrated!

Are the levels you have been given from the end of the previous year or the start of this year? Is she is Y2 now?
