Blimey literacy teaching has changed - or maybe its just my DC's school?

DS2 (yr 1) has come this weekend talking about split diagraphs and graphemes. I was a bit Confused as I had no idea what he was talking about to begin with. He will know more about grammar than me very soon. Is this how they teach them now or is his school unusual. DS1 (who has ASD) is at a different school (very different demographic) and he hasn't come home with these phrases (yet).

No it's quite common (unnecessary but normal) Grin

Not unusual at all. Why teach the incorrect term when the correct one will be even better? It annoys me when children come into my class talking about describing words and doing words, they're adjectives and verbs, for heavens sake!
