My son is in reception, and brought home a letter today, announcing that the school are very excited to be launching the IPC this term. Maths, English, Science, ICT and RE will be taught separately still.

I've never heard of The IPC and my quick googling now has brought up many mixed opinions! So has anyone on mumsnet heard of this or use it in your schools?

It was trialed in our school a couple of years ago (I was a governor but DS2 had left and DS3 was too young to be there yet) and the staff liked it and it was rated highly, sadly budget restraints meant they decided against it :(

Search the forum.
I do not feel like retyping my rants about Mission to Mars.

My sons school does it and I don't like it. It is thematic and my son struggles to grasp what he is learning.
I don't see the point of knowing in depth about fairtrade chocolate and dinosaurs if he and many in his year will be leaving school unable to read and write properly.

I would much rather primary schools concentrated on basic academic skills for life.

Sorry to be so negative, our school isn't very good. It may be very different at yours.
