Y1 Handwriting - What is a 'Dolphin'?

DD has had a bit of an odd pencil grip all through Reception, which her Reception teacher told me was not a problem and no need to correct it. As soon as she has gone into Y1 the new teacher doesn't share that view and at the recent parents meeting / meet the teacher session she did go on about the children developing a traditional pincer grip/ slanting the page and so on.

Am a bit Angry that there seems to be a lack of one policy at school but aside from that DD says that now all the girls have been given a 'dolphin' to wear which is somehow strapped to the hand. Anyone got any idea what she is on about as I haven't a clue? I don't think it can be a pencil grip that you just slide on as we've already got a few of those kicking about at home - it is something else..but what??

Have you googled it? I cant imagine it to be comfortable for one moment! Is it designed to make them write as a traditional right hander? Ie withtheir hand vertically ish to the page?

I cant write like that(never have!) and am a righty

Ah-ha! Thanks bubbles that must be it! and no Valpollicella I didn't google it a) because I am a bit bored after a night out so I am here on MN and chilling out with a decaff (wild and crazy, I know) whilst DH watches some football related nonsense on the goggle box and b) because I knew someone on MN would have the answer faster than my wine addled googling! Smile
