Calling Solihull Mners...

I am looking for some advice on primary schools in Solihull. We are wanting to move into the area and have found an ideal house but the local primary is Langley which is on special measures at the moment.
As part of our reason for moving was for good schools it is a bit ironic, although Langley secondary seems very good.
Can anyone reassure me it is ok, or where else I should look. Please help me out of this dilemma! TIA

Hello,

I don't know anything about Langley I'm afraid but I really wanted Kineton Green for my DS its is a lovely school ( I did a nursery nurse placement there) unfortunately we didn't get in and we ended up at Daylesford Infants which has recently been awarded an Ofsted outstanding and has a wonderful atmosphere, only down side is that it feeds Chapelfields Juniors and I'm not so keen on them.

If I were you I would have a look at Kineton Green, if your local area school is Langley you must be the other side of the Warwick Road from me and have more of a chance.

I'm also the wrong side of the Warwick Road for Langley and when my DC started at Primary we were living in A/G so I have no idea about Solihull Primary Schools although are looking at Langley for senior school next year so I have nothing helpful to add but got excited at seeing the thread title Blush

Hello and thank you for replying!

I am glad you are pleased with Daylesford Another. I don't know anything about that or Chapelfields. Maybe you will be pleasantly surprised by the time your DS moves?

I looked at Kineton. It is only half a mile away from the house we like but the LEA basically told me we won't get in because our catchment would be Langley and Kineton has a really long waiting list.

I just don't know what to do. We fell for the house but the school situation is putting us off. I really want to hear something positive so I can get excited about the house again! Sad

Dinosaurs (love your name btw!) Langley secondary does seem really good. I hope you get it for your DC.

It is nice to hear from local Mners, even if I still have my dilemma Grin

I'm not surprised there is a waiting list at Kineton, I loved it but had no chance. That's the only school I really know much about in that direction. Have you looked round Langley, OFSTEDS aren't everything and I think we are very lucky with primary schools around here and there are very few truly poor schools.
Daylesford was nowhere near my first choice but it really has turned out to be nuch better than I expected. DS is in year two so I'm looking at junior schools now but I think it will have to be Chapelfields, despite my reservations, because of the linked junior school system and I don't think DS would like to separated from his friends.

I am going to look round next week. I am really hoping I will get a positive feeling about it. I have got nothing done today other than scouring the computer to try and get information but I think you are right the only way is to see it and speak to the teachers/head.

What you say is encouraging and who knows maybe you will find the same with Chapelfields. Have you looked round it yet?

I haven't looked round yet but speaking to people who already have children there the general consensus seems to be a bit "meh". I just think a good school you would say its good. Like I said though there aren't any truly bad schools round here just some not brilliant ones, I am willing to be won over at the open day but time will tell. Ihope someone who knows a bit about Langley appears to reassure you.

Thanks Another. I hope you are won over on the open day. I will look out for you with a thread either way!thanks for your help.
