moved down bookband in year 2

When my dd finished year 1 she was on turquoise book band. She was very excited and pleased etc. She has just started year 2 and yesterday she came home with a book from a bookband lower than turquoise . (orange).
DD told me that her new teacher said that it says on the list that she got from the yr1 teacher that she is on orange. Dd moved bookband late in the term last term so could it be that yr 1 teacher forgot to move her on the 'list'. But dd also said that she has read 2 books to the new teacher so now I am not sure if she thinks she shouldn't read turquoise or if it's a mistake. She reads other books as well at home so it's not so much that. But dd now feels really disappointed cause her year 1 teacher had told her that she will continue to read turquoise in year 2 and now she has been moved down.

Have a word with the teacher. There isn't much difference between the bands and it is very demoralising for a child to feel they have been moved down even if the teachers intentions are good.

In yr 2 my son was on 2 bookbands! He moved up with his group to the higher band, but also joined another group who were on his old band, purely to keep his confidence.

Thank heavens he's in yr 5 and ever since yr 3 there has been no mention of bookbands Grin

Thanks, yes I will have a word with the teacher. I haven't really spoken to her before and don't want to come across like a pushy parent who is obsessed with bookbands (i'm not) just don't want my dd confidence to be knocked by being moved down. Any ideas on how to phrase it?
and 'derekthehamster' I can see your teachers point about keeping his confidence but in my dd case it seems to have had the opposite effect

Turns out it was a mistake. She is meant to be on turquoise and they are giving her a new book tomorrow. Thanks guys for your messages. X
