Friends in reception

DS has just started reception in a 3 class year of approx 14 kids per class. He was in the nursery attached to the school however all of his friends are in the other two classes and he has been placed with mostly new intake, I hope he will be ok as it does seem a little unfair.

However I was wondering if kids from different classes mix as friends as they will see each other in playground or will the nursery friendships fade and they only become friends with those in their class?

Does anyone have any opinion?
Thanks.

In my school the three classrooms have their doors open nearly all day an Dhe kids can pay outside with whoever they choose playtimes they can find their old friends too

You can invite old friends to play at home too if you're worried

I think most schools are like cybbo described, they all mix in together at first.
If you are worried let them settle in for a couple of weeks and then invite home any child they think they might want to play with.

IIRC with DS (now yr3) he did initially stick with the friends he knew but certainly by the end of the first term had a whole new set of friends that were in his class.

But as his school tends to mix them up at the end of every school yr it means that they get to know all the children in their yr group really well.

My DD went to nursery with about half her reception intake. She denied all knowledge of knowing any of the children in school (despite having seen most of them all day 3 times a week for 2.5 years). She just made a new set of friends.

I think they are more flexible than we sometimes give them credit for if left to their own devices.
