Yep, we go back in two days and are only just making start. It's like pulling teeth. We're both getting frustrated. How on earth will he cope in year two seeing as 6 weeks of leisure has rendered him unable to even compose and write one sentence about Legoland. We were there for 10 hours fgs!

Draw pictures? Does it have to be sentences? Do you have any photos that he could use? Maybe write a few words about the picture?

I'd do a zig-zag book or similar to make it a bit more interesting, maybe with some flaps in it? Something like this?

Invent one?

Creative writing is a skill, and something like: "Daddy got three parking tickets in one week and I learned some interesting new words". "Mummy's favourite drink in the holidays is gin". "I found lots of slugs, but Mummy made me throw them over the nasty neighbour's fence"

Thanks juniper. Flaps idea is ace. Smile

edith your invention isn't wildly beyond the last six weeks BlushGrin

They did give us as a diary, 8 sides no lines so I think it's quite flexible but can't help thinking the expectation is loads of fab writing. Mind you I can't complain! But the holiday has been lovely. Sigh.

We did ours only for the two weeks holiday we went away. We tried to do it at the weekend but I found that with writing thank you cards for her birthday and doing a writing workbook she had enough practice.

I also found it more important to read so spare time was taken up by the reading challenge.

But I must say DH and I work and she went to holiday clubs part-time which left her totally exhausted.
