Hello there

We have just made the monumental decision to move back to the city that I was born in. I have two children, one going into year 3 the other starting reception this September.

We aren't in a massive hurry but its a change that needs to happen for us as a family as where we are is too small and we aren't happy. Probably early next year.

So....we have a limited budget to purchase of about £225,000 to purchase a 3 bed.

I have been wondering about Weeke? The houses are a good size and it seems that things come up occasionally that might suit us...

Can anyone throw any other thoughts into the hat for areas? I will call the council soon to get an idea of the primary situ...not looking forward to it though...

Thanks everyone

Most of the outlying villages around Winchester are nice. Kings Worthy, Weeke, Harestock, Littleton, even a bit further out are South Wonston and Sutton Scotney.

Closer to town and imo these would not be my first choices are Badger Farm, Stanmore and Highcliffe.

Thanks Giraffeears!

I was thinking of doing a letter drop around weeke...to see if anyone fancies a private sale, its seems they go for much more than our budget but the houses are big so perhaps its worth a punt.

Do you think its an ok area now? I only know it of 30 years ago if not more!

Thanks so much

I'd talk to Hampshire County Council about schools sooner rather than later, especially for your Y3 child. You need to know what's full and what's not before you set your heart on an area, and they're the people who can help you.

Weeke is good, and if you live in Weeke it should be easy enough to get your reception child into Weeke Primary (good school) but your Y3 child might be sent to Harestock instead.

Badger Farm is not all bad and will give you more house for your money. Some of Badger Farm is in the Olivers Battery catchment; some is in Stanmore. Stanmore is a good school with a problematic intake and shouldn't be dismissed out of hand.
