I am wondering what delights we will be having... Ancient Egypt/Greece, Henry VIII, Florence Nightingale...

We're starting with Romans, and WW2 comes later in the year

mrz · 29/08/2012 15:29

It depends on the school ... there isn't a set topic. Our Y3 teacher does Ancient Egyptians and Anglo Saxons but another school may choose Vikings and Ancient Greece

Think we've got Aztecs and Victorians. DS1 reading his Horrible Histories for a head start. Smile

My DS will be doing Tudors. I know this because their year 3&4 alternate Tudors with Egyptians and they did Egyptians last year! :-)

HappyOrchid · 29/08/2012 16:42

Don't know, but DD can't wait to find out. Her new school don't tell you in advance to stop competitive parenting Grin

funnypeculiar · 29/08/2012 16:42

Tudors here too (half made Tudor house holiday-homework is glaring at me across the table...)

Frontpaw · 29/08/2012 16:51

Cool - love the Tudors...

please not Beowulf, please not Beowulf, please not Beowulf...

We're doing rainforests (& Aztecs), Romans and maybe India.

Frontpaw · 29/08/2012 17:10

Ooh Romans. I like them too.

Last year in Y4 we covered Vikings, Tudors and habitats as the major topics. This year their first topic is the Caribbean but my Y4 class (different school) have chocolate as the first topic.

CouthyMow · 01/09/2012 09:47

DS2 will be doing WW2 in Y4, they alternate and do a 2-year rolling topic across Y3 & Y4, one year all do WW2, the other they do Romans. He did Romans in Y3, so it will be WW2 and the trip to Duxford this year. I have obviously been sending DC's to this school for too long...

Y5 & Y6 do Victorians and Ancient Egypt. As DS1 did Ancient Egypt last year, I know he will be doing Victorians this year.

CouthyMow · 01/09/2012 09:53

DS2's first topic is 'under the sea' though. Which he will LOVE.

They tend to do 6 topics a year, one History, one Geography, one 'Natural world', one Religious, one art topic (learning about a famous artist and their style and works - Reception is ALWAYS Da Vinci, starry night reproductions x 3 so far on my fridge, and a reproduction of the sunflowers one x 3 too!), and one other assorted topic - last year's was fair trade for DS1, and I can't remember what DS2's was! We have a Stary Night too!

Hopefully to read better, improve their maths knowledge, work independently, enjoy learning and think for themselves just a little bit more!!!

Elibean · 02/09/2012 16:19

Tudors for dd1.....and what tess said.

And probably a few new rude rhymes, the ability to draw one's parents in brilliant cartoon style, and a passion for all things gadgety Hmm
