DS1 starting reception - socks and shorts?

I've bought some school shorts for DS1 in case we have a heatwave next week. But what socks does he wear with shorts? The school uniform list just says "grey socks", but what looks right? Normal length socks or knee high socks?

I honestly don't think it matters. Whatever socks he will be wearing the rest of the time.

Just socks.

Surely knee high my not help with keeping cool though....

I've got ankle socks for my DS with the shorts. Longer ones for the cold with the long trousers.

DD wears short socks with her school dresses, so I would say shorter socks with shorts.

Long socks will end up round his ankles anyway.

DS wears shorts all year round, with ankle socks in summer, long in winter. But the long ones fall down anyway

I have not seen any boys at DS's school wearing knee high socks.

Local boy's school has uniform of shorts and they wear long socks.

Boy's uniform at dd's school is shorts and long socks - they wear garters (bits of elastic) to hold the socks up (socks have a bit that folds over at the top). But that is the uniform - no trousers. I wouldn't send a child to a school in that unless you knew that was the norm.
