I am currently on a waiting list for a c of e school for yr 3. Whenever I ring up and ask them what position my daughter is they say we can't tell you. Can they do this? Thank you

AFAIK, a waiting list doesn't work like a queue, so possibly. If someone moved into the area next week and were higher on the criteria than you, they would get the next available place instead of you, for example if they lived closer to the school than you.

Unless they use random allocation as a tie breaker they can and should tell you where your daughter is on the waiting list. However, as MoaningMinge says, you can go down the list as well as up.

Depends who you are ringing.

Are you ringing the school, or the LEA? Who is the admission authority - that will be who holds the waiting list? If you don't know, try ringing both!

I remember your previous posts about your appeals, afsana. Does this mean that they were unsuccessful and they advised you to go through the waiting list instead?

They should be able to tell you

Charly, with this and your other posts on similar threads, i think you might need:

which is the area for media requests for views from Mumsnetters.
