Could anyone tell me about the "big" difference between Reception any Y1 please?

I've heard this "big" difference between YR and Y1 mentioned a few times- by parents and teachers.

I'm assuming this relates to more structured learning and less learning through play? Is this the case?

DD starts Y1 next week, and I would like to understand a little more about how things might change. Asking him about it is unlikely to help, he loves school but insists that he did "nothing" every day .

Thank you all for sharing your experiences. It sounds like there is quite a lot of variation in the way the transition is managed.

DD starts back tomorrow so I will be watching with interest (although as I said in my OP, she doesn't tend to share much about her day ).
