When do we apply for state primary?

Dd was born Dec 2010. My brain not working - can you help me work out when we apply for a primary place. We want to move in the next few years, not for schools but because we need bigger house, and I am keen not to mess up school applications dates by a few months and end up having to appt where we live now then move house and bring her to school back here each day. We'll only move a few miles away but in London that is seeral cardinals areas away.

Start reception September 2015 so apply September 2014?

So if we move it should be before sept 2014? What happens of we move after that but before school starts, eg spring 2015?

Needs to be before January 2015 - or whenever applications close.

You can only apply for schools based on a current address, so if you move to a new area after the applications close you can't apply in advance for schools in that area.

You would submit a new late application and go on the waiting list for places.

If you know you are definitely moving to a specific area and there is a hold up on contract exchange etc going on which will put you over the deadline then it is an idea to move to a rental property in the area while you are waiting for the purchase to go through.

In my County, application form would have to be in by 31 October 2014. I know this as I have a DS who will be in that school year. Not everywhere will be the January.

If you are in England the closing date for applications will be January 15th 2015 regardless of where you live. That date is set by law so all LAs must comply.
