Anyone know about primary schools in Hitchin?

Hi. I'd be really grateful to anyone who could give me some advice on catchment areas for the primaries in Hitchin. We are currently in Stevenage but considering buying a house on Nightingale Road (apparently 0.3 miles from St Andrews school). This is the nearest school ,then Highbury/Wilshere-Dacre. Does anyone know if I would have any chance of getting my son into St Andrews at that distance away? It is in their 'catchment' area but we are not religious and I've heard its really oversubscribed. Worried I would end up at Highbury/Wilshere.

Thanks to anyone who can advise. I do realise that there are no definite outcomes here! Just wondering if anyone has any experience of where kids on nightingale road end up going to school?

Hi Oscarsmum,
I can't advise, though I have heard that it totally depends on how many sibling places are taken as to how close you have to be. This website may be of use (as I understand it, if you subscribe, it will tell you if you would have got in in previous years).

Hi, This year's allocation info should help:

Highbury, feeds to Whitehill. Strathmore feeds to Wilshire Dacre.

All the schools bar the odd one or two are oversubscribed so it will come down to distance. Herts publish the figures to show the distance the last place is allocated, you could ring the school to find out too.

Nightingale Road isn't a nice road to live on tbh, it's a main road to the train station so the traffic is horrendous and all the house front straight onto the pavement afaik. It's also got lots of takeaways, pubs, garages and a Mc Donalds on it. I also wouldn't have thought that you'd have much of a chance for St Andrew's from there unless you are religious - it's hugely oversubscribed and some years people living at the far end of Benslow Rise 150 metres away don't even get in. I wouldn't risk it tbh and would look at houses elsewhere too.
