teacher reading with students in Y1

How many times in the whole school year would you expect your DC's teacher to have read or written a comment in their reading book?

Just curious. I am not sure how the system works in the UK.

Once a week, after the guided reading session.

oh, we had three comments for a whole year. I thought it didn't seem too many, but I didn't know what to expect.

I volunteer in school in a Y1/Y2 class (small village school with only 4 classes) All of the children are read with either by the teacher, TA or me (I have been trained in a program called the "Better reading partnership") and their diary gets written in every time they are read with. The comments won't always be by the teacher but there is at least a weekly comment - the BRP means I read with some of the child thre times a week for 10 weeks so for those children get three comments a week. Obviously it's not always the teacher writing the comment but someone is.
My DS3 has just finished reception, he had his books changed at least once every week and got read with at the same time and a comment written in his book - either by the teacher or TA and sometimes tice a week if they have a volunteer in the class.

Guided reading twice a week but no comments in reading record (is recorded elsewhere and we can see on request).

We get no comments but they do read every day, DS tends to read to himself at school and occasionally a volunteer but then to the teacher in guided reading.

YR they read pretty much every day to someone and there were comments every time in the book.

My son has just finished YR - he got a new reading book once a week and would have read it with either teacher or TA at least once during the week and a comment recorded. He also went up to Y1 for a guided reading session twice a week but this was not recorded in his diary.

DD has just finished year one. She read to her teacher or TA at least twice a week and comments were recorded in the reading diary. They also did group reading a couple of times a week and silent reading every day but were only allowed silent reading book once they'd read first five pages through to TA or teacher

I teach Y1. I hear all children myself once a week at their actual reading book and write in their diary. They are also heard as many times as possible by other adults such as TAs or parent helpers who again will write in the diary. If parents have written in the diary, children can have their book changed every day if they want. We also do guided sessions every day, sometimes reading sometimes writing but this would not be recorded in the diary.

Ds's last school, no comments ever. A couple of books a week if lucky, whole class moved at same pace. This school he reads with someone every day, always lovely comments, every week or two with his teacher snd book changed daily. What a difference!
