Hi. Pass mark for writing was about 15 and for reading was 19. Children can only be awarded level 6 for English if they got a 6 for both writing and reading. That could be why it says level 5 on your child's report (I speak as a Year 6 teacher!).

Ah but is says 5 for writing 5 for reading

Hi Rydercup, thanks are you definately sure about the 15 for the writing as I was told 17 from a head I know (both showed they'd past though)!

Hi. Pretty sure. You can google level 6 2012 thresholds ks2 and the information should come up. Sounds like a mistake on the report! The school get results back on a spreadsheet from nca which say level child has achieved for reading and maths. Writing was obviously teacher assessed so only the teacher has access to this. The only other thing that might have changed your child's level for writing is if external moderation took place and your child was judged a 5 by an external teacher. Might be worth asking.
