Hello, my just turned 8 year old DS scored 2b s for his SATS last year. This year through teacher assessment and QCA tests he achieved level 4C for reading, but only 2A for maths and literacy.

I am delighted at the reading result, should be worried about the maths and literacy. I know that expected progress is 2 sublevels. Do I need to speak to his teacher. At parent evenings she said she was really pleased with him, so this report is a bit of a disappointment, or is it really OK.

Any advice?

I think that the expected progress is 3 sub levels over the two years of year three and four. So actually one sub level may be OK if he makes 2 sub levels next year. Or maybe he is at the top end of 2a and only just missed a 3c?
Might be worth speaking to teacher to see what else he needs to do and maybe doing some work on it in the summer?

Thank piglet, I was planning on doing some work anyway in the holidays but I think I will definitely make an appointment to see his teacher to get her take.
