Please can anyone tell me what the numbers 1 to 9 mean with regard to a yr R child's end of year report. My dd read dgs first report to me over the phone and I didn't really understand the significance of the numbers. Is there some Early Years Curriculum basis for them?

They are all different areas of attainment. Levels 1-3 are sequential I think. 4-8 are not. You can only score 9 if you get all 1-8. So if your child gets a 7 it will mean they have areas 1-3 and then 4 out of the 5 other areas.
I think that most children are expected to get 6 -7 for each area. But obviously some have more or less.

Look up Eyfs grid. They have all the levels and the descriptions. It stands for early years foundation stage

The odd thing is that you get given the scores but not which areas they have. The written report didn't tell me the areas he hadn't achieved either so not that useful really!

Thank you I will try to find the grid. I know he got 8 for problem solving and numeracy. Its new to me getting reports in Reception.

That's great then. It's pretty hard to get 9s according to my reception teacher friend. Am sure lots of posters her have children with all 9sGrin

They also have to observe the child doing these things regularly rather than actually test them on it .

Can't find relevant grid for Cheshire-just Herts and Ealing never mind I will see the report tomorrow so maybe that will explain.

The grid will be the same for the whole of England
