Levels question (I know, sorry!)

Genuine question, not intended as boast, honest!

On DD's report she has been given some marks as level plus sub level and some as level only i.e. just the number and no sub level. Explanatory sheet from school not clear - does this mean she is just at the level expected or securely within it? I have googled but can't find any clear guidance-any ideas?

You might need to say what yr she's in.

Sub-levels are usually only published for reading, writing and maths. The rest a straight levels - just the number. I have just returned the end of key stage 1 assessment data to the LA and it will not accept sublevels in speaking and listening or science, or at level 1 or level 3 for reading, writing and maths. It's just the system.

Ah, that probably explains it! She's in Yr 2 and these are the first levels they have reported as the school doesn't give them for non-SATS years.
Thanks thank you!

Hi archfield:

Mumsnet learning pages explains progress through national curriculum levels here and there's a nice little chart at the bottom of the page that tells you what the notional 'average child' should be achieving at the end of a given school year:
