My ds is starting year 3 at a new school and he won't know anyone we have had a lot of tears as he his so nervous. I am upset for him as it is that first day feeling and fear of the unknown and he is so hostile to the change so if anyone has been in the same boat I would love to hear from you.

We are visiting on Friday and I am dreading it getting over the threshold is going to be tough.

We were in your shoes last year. My DD also started year 3. Being honest I would say it takes at least a couple of terms for the child to settle completely. DD also not good with change as she is on the spectrum. For us though it has been the best thing we could have done. We stayed very upbeat and positive all through the holidays last summer. Focus on all the good things and how wonderful the school is! I am sure he will soon make friends. Hopefully there will be other new children, that helps Good luck! I am sure he will be fine.

Not with my children, they're too young. But I probably went to a dozen different schools. I found keeping in touch with old friends was great. I wrote to friends from primary school long after I moved to secondary in another country. I was also very sociable, I don't know about your son, but it never took me long to make new friends. (Many of my schools were rural, though. Village children often have lots of time to be together.)

Thank you he is very sociable and outgoing but smart enough to see that he will be nervous at the beginning if you see what I mean. I have told him he will see his old friends and I will make sure he has a social life after school.

I feel for him. I am very confident but hate like most of us day 1 in a new job.
