Changing Schools

We have had a preview of the Ofsted report and it looks as if the school will be going into special measures.
The school has been getting worse over the last year and it has started to show in my kids work and behaviour, I am ringing the nearest local schools tomorrow and am wondering what I need to be asking them?

Obviously I would like them moved for the start of the next academic year if possible, but am not sure if I am supposed to inform the LEA or any other people.

I guess they will know now what spaces they have.

Also am feeling guilty at leaving the school as I feel like a rat jumping a ship.

They only get one chance at education at their age so don't feel guilty. Start by visiting the schools, seeing if you like them and if they have spaces.

I don't know where you are but where I live the LA deal with all admissions, including in year. When parents phone to ask if we have places we always have to direct them to admissions at local authority as even if we have a space so to speak we don't know if it has been offered already. It might be worth phoning admission team first just to get an idea.

Thank you - not sure if it will be different as its a catholic school, will be ringing the admissions tomorrow as soon as they are dropped off. It's going to be fun to get three spaces I guess.

I think church schools have some additional admission criteria like your priest signing form to say you regularly attend church etc. so not sure if they manage their own admissions. I'm sure someone with far more knowledge on the subject will come along soon.

Thank you tiggytape. I thought that was the case but am no expert.
When you say things are changing from Sept 2013 what exactly is going to happen and is that all LAs?
Sorry to high jack the thread but just interested.

I can get any info needed from the parish priest.

Thank you everyone
